Acorn Bites

Chocolate dipped edible acorns, perfect for Fall! These are a really fun activity to do with the family, just in time for Thanksgiving.

I made these little acorn bites out of a spice cake, baked in my Wilton brownie pop silicone mold/pan (shown below), but donut holes would work just as well. The pan can be found in the baking aisle at most arts & crafts stores (like Michael's Arts & Crafts or Jo-Ann Fabrics), baking supply stores, or online

Acorn Bites

You will need

  • spice cake bites -OR- donut holes (store bought or homemade)
  • semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • mini chocolate chips or chocolate jimmies (sprinkles)
  • mini pretzel twists/pretzel sticks

Directions

Bake spice cake in brownie pop mold, or skip this step and use store bought donut holes or my simple homemade donut holes instead, if you don't have the pan.

Melt chocolate chips according to package. Dip top 1/3 of "acorn" into melted chocolate and roll in shallow bowl of mini chocolate chips (you could also use chocolate sprinkles). Break pretzels into about 1" long pieces, and insert them into the top of your acorn for the stem. I used pretzel twists because I liked the look of the curved, natural looking stem, but pretzel sticks work fine too. Let chocolate dry completely. Package them up in individual bags for gift giving, or place them in baking cups on a party platter.
